Reflections Part 1

I've just finished a re-read of Fatherhood by Tony Payne. I'm sometimes a bit skeptical on how this guy is an expert on so many different fields, but I've got to hand it to him, I reckon he has nailed this one (at least in the book at least!) Over the next week or so I want to give you some insights that buzzed me from what he had to say. Read between the lines it will tell you a bit more about me and you might pick up some gems along the way too.

“It’s in our thinking that mothers are the principals in the baby making business, and fathers are the junior partners who have a minor role to play in the whole process. . . .”

“ . . . One of the things that stikes you straight away as you read the bible is that fathers are, if anything, the senior partners in the baby production business. To be a father, in the biblical sense of the word, is to be a life giver. Fathers are the seed sowers, the ‘begetters’ of offspring. In the bibles way of thinking the life principle is in the man’s ‘seed’, which is planted in the fertile ground of the womens womb, and within God’s blessing eventually produces fruit . . .”

“. . .Fathers are the source of life to generation after generation of their descendants. They spawn families and clans and tribes. They are life givers. They are creators. This is one of the ways which god himself is described as father in the bible – because he is the life giver, the creator of all.”

To quote from the book, who quotes from, I believe, Anthony Quinn:

"I am poor, because I am a river to my people."
