I am reaching out into blogworld to gauge the temperature of a 'hypothetical'.
Your with friends. Ben is playing happily on the floor. Another kid comes up. Ben looks at them with a smile, anticipating 'just a little of that human touch' as Bruce Springsteen would say. Instead they pull his hair, bit his eye (yes this has happened!) or generally do the little guy harm.
What do do?
a) Do the same back to the offending child
b) Using Ben as a puppet, do the same back to the offending child
c) Punch the parent of the kid
d) Say, 'That's OK' even though I don't mean it
e) Do nothing
Feel free to reply regardless of your kid-related status

I wonder why we have to limit ourselves to just one response?
Surely this is an opportunity to encourage your kid to sort things out with violence, while unleashing a little aggresion on the parent yourself! It could be like some kind of bonding experience for the two of you!
I have no wisdom to offer, only shared frustration. what a suck - love returned with hate.
