Ground breaking

Here it is, Ben's first box of lego. Yup, it's pretty basic, but then, so is Ben. The 'lego' component is that the guy snaps into the plane. At this stage Ben is more interested in trying to suck his cap off,but all great things begin with something small. I think i've still got a while to go before we can have a huge box of the stuff and built death crusiers together.

Babies Bounce

It was only a matter of time.
It happens to all first time parents right?

So, I'm coming to the rescue on vomit patrol, bringing some clean up gear into our bedroom where Hayley has just fed Ben. As I enter the room I see Ben begin a series of commando rolls which culminate with him disappearing off the end of the bed.

The whole thing took about 3 seconds.

He was a little put out for a few minutes, but not long after was laughing and rolling again. So, yes, babies bounce.

PS: No babies were harmed in the posting of this blog.

Reflections Part 1

I've just finished a re-read of Fatherhood by Tony Payne. I'm sometimes a bit skeptical on how this guy is an expert on so many different fields, but I've got to hand it to him, I reckon he has nailed this one (at least in the book at least!) Over the next week or so I want to give you some insights that buzzed me from what he had to say. Read between the lines it will tell you a bit more about me and you might pick up some gems along the way too.

“It’s in our thinking that mothers are the principals in the baby making business, and fathers are the junior partners who have a minor role to play in the whole process. . . .”

“ . . . One of the things that stikes you straight away as you read the bible is that fathers are, if anything, the senior partners in the baby production business. To be a father, in the biblical sense of the word, is to be a life giver. Fathers are the seed sowers, the ‘begetters’ of offspring. In the bibles way of thinking the life principle is in the man’s ‘seed’, which is planted in the fertile ground of the womens womb, and within God’s blessing eventually produces fruit . . .”

“. . .Fathers are the source of life to generation after generation of their descendants. They spawn families and clans and tribes. They are life givers. They are creators. This is one of the ways which god himself is described as father in the bible – because he is the life giver, the creator of all.”

The Boy

Lately our boy, so bursting with fruit flavours (above), got a bit sick (below).

It certianly took the edge off him and he went as soggy as a bit of toast on a youth camp. But the good news is he has bounced right back. Mind you, 1 bout of illness in 8 months is probably a pretty good ratio so far . . .
