Here's a 'State of the Nation' for Ben

He can
  • clap his hands when told to 'clap your hands!'
  • wave goodbye and hello (kind of the same wave)
  • give high 5's
  • stage dive off the top of the couch onto the cushion
  • eat big peoples food (all mashed up)
  • stare in a confused way at mum and dad when we are saying grace
  • look so cute that he scams free donoughts at the lady at the bakery counter at Pick and Pay.

He can't
  • crawl - but we are soooo close
  • wipe his own nose
  • make a good cup of coffee for his old man

'Do Not Eat'

Have you ever opened a box and a small packet of silicon crystals falls out? The kind that are meant to absorb all the mostiure insode the box? The kind that say on the packet, "Do not eat"?

Happened to me yesterday when I was putting up a wall heater in Ben's room. Trouble is, he got to the packet in the stealth way that only babies can and the next thing I know Hayley tells me, "He's got that thing in his mouth!" Wondering which thing we were talking about, I ran into the room to discovered that he had eaten a hole in it and had a mouthful of crystals. Fortunately he hadn't swallowed any and a quick call to poison hotline confirmed they were harmless. Kind of jealous though. I had always followed the instructions and I still don't know waht they taste like :)

In our local paper some keen bean noted the fact that last Thursday was a unique time in history.
At 2 min and 3 seconds after 1pm the time was 1:02:03 4/5/06
Apparently that won't happen again for another 400 generations.
Nerd.

On only a mildly nerdery note, today, Ben is 9 months old, which means he has spent the same amount of time inside Hayley as he has out. From here on in, it's new territory all the way.

Well done little twakkie

Art

This is one of Ben's frrst bits for art.

I call it "Hand-guided-overhead-pens-on-the-inisde-of-a-post-pack-from-Nan"

I think his use of colour is refreshing but the strength of the lines betray an inner anxiety that might be brought on by a pooy nappy.

It's deep stuff.

Two Fathers

The other night Ben and I finished reading through the Bible (kids version) for the first time. True, for the last month or so he has been more interested in tearing the pages and eating them. Does he get any of it? I don't know, probably not, but God is gracious. But the biggest victory we won was setting a routine whereby it's now part of MY day to sit and read the Bible with him and talk about it. Being a father is also fathering Ben in the gospel. Something I was reminded of this week by Paul in 1 Cor Ch 4:

"Even though you have ten thousand guadians in Christ, you do not haver many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your Father in the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me."

I'm a double Father.
I made Him, so he is mine.
I also want to be his gospel father too, which means reminding myself that God made him, so he is His.

Catching up

In many ways the collage is the cop out. I've been slack in posting so I whack together a series of unrelated photos and call it a catch up. Yup, well . . . welcome to my Tuesday morning.
Granny got Ben some of those foam mats. They are great, but it took him about 3 min to work out how to pull them apart and chew on them.

Bath time with Granny

I really hoped my kid wouldn't become a pot head.
