Murder at Buttercup Farm

Ben loves books.
He especially loves his pop up book.
But that love doesn't seem to extend to Mrs Brown. He carefully pages through and tries to rip her head off wherever he might find her. Her white echo is thrown into sharp relief, much like the outline of slain victims at a crime scene.
While Ben is gaining knowledge, we say RIP to Mrs Brown. A marytr for a noble cause.

I am reaching out into blogworld to gauge the temperature of a 'hypothetical'.

Your with friends. Ben is playing happily on the floor. Another kid comes up. Ben looks at them with a smile, anticipating 'just a little of that human touch' as Bruce Springsteen would say. Instead they pull his hair, bit his eye (yes this has happened!) or generally do the little guy harm.

What do do?

a) Do the same back to the offending child
b) Using Ben as a puppet, do the same back to the offending child
c) Punch the parent of the kid
d) Say, 'That's OK' even though I don't mean it
e) Do nothing

Feel free to reply regardless of your kid-related status

Lovely weather for ducks

We took Ben to Kirstenbosch - a stunning warm winters day - and now that he is crawling, he chases stuff. Above you can see him checking out a duck and then going scrambling after a guinea fowl. The birds still have a bit of speed on the little guy but it won't be long before he comes back to the picnic blanket with a fist full of feathers.
But there was something that weirded me out about the day. The ducks are real tame, the 'come up and eat out of your hand' type. But while one of the ducks was waiting for me to toss him some muffin . . .he drooled! A dead set stream of saliva bungee-ed from his open beak! I've never seen a duck drool before. Have you? A little to anthropomorphic for my liking.

Big Weekend

Like the assasination of JFK, a lot has happened in a little while.

On Friday, Ben started to crawl. He is now quite mobile when he wants to be and has already pulled over one of my surround speaker stands and pulled a dinning room chair down, pinning himself to the floor.

The weekend also saw the end of Hayley's breast feeding days, Ben is now on a bottle twice a day instead. So now we are more mobile too. You gotta love karma.

Yesterday, we took Ben for his first haircut. It was the ordeal you would expext, but I forgot the camera, so we'll have to wait for the 2nd haircut before it's truly blog worthy.

Little Ben has been a busy bee.

What is Ben watching? Part 2

And the winner is . . . .

If you said 'watching TV' you'd be right. Ben gets to watch his fav. cartoon on Saturday mornings. It's about a bunch of computer generate planes with human faces. They drive around town and fly thru the air and sing songs about how it is great to share with your friends and how much they love trees. But you'd think by how Ben is utterly cpativated that he was witnessing the moon landing. Problem is, with Ben watching his cartoons, I usually miss out on mine :)
